15 Days til Tri-C Jazzfest! Paul Samuels 4 – tickets on sale now!

Hello fellow Jazzians! [literary license, lol]

Just 15 more days until we experience some of the best representations of Jazz available!  10 days.. that’s right, 10 days of amazing music, information, and expression. Last year I  had the extreme pleasure of participating [Jazz meets Poetry event w/Hubbs Groove & Sean Jones].  Can I just say that I LOVE my Jazzy friends! The atmosphere was charged with a love and appreciation for music that was universal.  It crossed generational and cultural lines in a way that no other gathering can afford.  This year, Tri-C has stepped it up a notch and it’s going to be exceptional!

This blog is about our own Paul Samuels, whose concert will be held on April 16, at Brothers Lounge located at 11607 Detroit Avenue.

In the mid 80s Samuels recorded three albums with Greg Osby and his compositions, Excuse Not and Eyewitness appear on Osbys Mind Games and Season of Renewal recordings (JMT). Samuels said Osby encouraged him to keep an open mind and move forward with the music.

Samuels has recorded, performed or toured internationally with a variety of musicians such as James Moody, David Fathead Newman, Lonnie Plaxico, Hank Crawford, Pat The Kid Martino, Jack McDuff, and popular rhythm and blues artist Gerald Levert. Respected by his peers, and performing for more than three decades, Paul says, he is “still a work in progress”. The man’s journey continues through music. Expressive in his touch, with sensitivity to sound, Samuels’ sophisticated drum style is a testament to his love for the art of music. Paul devotes his time to teaching for the Jazz Studies Program at Oberlin College, in Ohio. Samuels debut CD, called Speak, features Greg Osby on saxophone, Dan Wall on organ and Jamie Haddad on percussion [excerpted from website]

For the Jazzfest, Paul will be joined by Glenn Holmes, Dan Wilson, and Alex Cummings.  Cleveland is so underrated!  We have an absolute plethora of gifted artists here, and Paul is no exception.  Be sure to get your tickets early, because seats to this event are going fast!  I promise you, you will not be disappointed.
